INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS AND PHILOSOPHY
Instruction will be the primary function of the Agawam Public Schools. The philosophy guiding this instruction will emphasize the individual and his/her development to the fullest potential for participation in life and for the betterment of democratic society. The school system responsibility is to provide the best education possible for every child according to his/her needs, abilities and interests.
The instructional program will entail the use of a wide variety of techniques and experiences to help each student toward total personal development, excellence in the skills of learning, the attainment of an inquiring mind, a firm foundation in the basic skills, resources for career exploration, and appreciation of our heritage and its ramifications in the development of responsible citizenship of good character and self respect.
Educational experiences will be organized into a curriculum based on purposeful ideas, be subject to continuous study and evaluation, and undergo revision as improvement is indicated. Provisions will be made for the exceptional, disadvantaged, physically handicapped, and students who desire vocational training.
The School Committee believes that in order to achieve its instructional goals, the experiences of students must be extended beyond the classroom, that individuals should receive the supporting services needed to develop their capabilities, and that issues must be discussed in the classroom.
