FIRST Robotics Competition

First (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1992, and currently encompasses 37,000 students from 1,500 teams. This year, 2008, forty one regional competitions will be held in the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Israel.

The FIRST Robotics Competition consists of a six-week build season to accomplish conceptualization, design, fabrication, and testing of a 120 pound robot that accomplishes a series of competitive sports-like tasks for points. The robot is operated both autonomously through its internal programming and by radio control.

The robot was developed in the high school machine shop, and was designed and fabricated by student with the guidance of parent mentors. Rosie has utilized electric motors, pneumatics, and programming with easyC PRO™. Ocer the past five(6) years, Rosie has won several awards within the FRC program, the Kleiner Perkins, Caufield and Byers Entrepreneurship Award (4 times), Daimler Chrysler Spirit Awars (once) and the Underwriters Laboratory Safety Award. Within the FIRST Tech Competition, our smaller “Rosie’s Li’l Sis” we won the Connect Award, for our ‘connection to the community’, the Gracious Professionalism Award, and the Runner up for the Massachusetts FTC Championships.
