Library Policies

Students visit the library once a week with their class during the scheduled library time. Books are borrowed for a one week period and are returned on the classroom's library day.  Students may renew a book if they have not had time to finish it or need the book for a classroom report/project.

Checkout limits by grade:
Kindergarten: 1 book
1st Grade: 2 books
2nd, 3rd, 4th Grades: 3 books

Late Fees/Replacement Charges: The library does not charge late fees.  However, if a book is damaged or lost, you will be asked to pay the replacement cost of that book, which will be shown on the overdue notice sent home with your child.  If you should find a lost book after paying for it, and it is in good condition, please return it to the library and your money will be refunded.

Overdue Notices: Notices are printed and sent home every Friday ~ please check your child's folder or backpack.  If a book is three weeks or more overdue, a notice will be sent home and the student's library privileges are suspended until the book is returned or the replacement cost is paid.

Library Volunteers & Programs

Volunteers: Parents and Grandparents are welcome to volunteer in our library.  At the start of the school year, volunteer forms will be sent home with the students.  Just fill out the form and return it to Mrs. Chase in the Library. All volunteers will be required to complete a CORI background check form.

Birthday Book Program:  The Birthday Book Program is an opportunity for you to donate a book to the James Clark Library while making your child feel special about books and literacy. You may view the order form, that contains more information, or the Birthday Book List, by clicking below.

Accelerated Reader Program:  Students in grades 2 - 4 may take part in the Accelerated Reader Program.  Students read a book and then use this computer program to take a Reading Practice quiz about the book.  These quizzes check the student's reading comprehension and understanding of the story.  You may use the Quiz List search engine to see what Accelerated Reader quizzes we have in our school.  Click on the Accelerated Reader Logo below.
